He spent time living on s houseboat in burseldon and then on a converted motor torpedo boat. War torn Gosport was apparently an amazing playground when he was young. A man with a big heart and generous with his time, happy to help anyone who needs it and fun to have around A lover of Ale, Margaret Thatcher, Brexit, roast dinners, polished shoes, jiving, horses, dogs, motorhoming, flying aeroplanes, cherry bakewells, almanac, cowboy boots and checked shirts, rock n roll, drinking mans pubs, Southampton FC or Arsenal or Bournemouth when Saints were doing badly, pruning, pukka pies, Jags A dislike of Cyclists, the labour party, parsnips, cooking, filling out forms, slow traffic and prats. Shout out if I have forgotten anything!! Our dad was particularly special as he was one of the first ‘single dads’ but thankfully, he and we were rescued by the love of his life…mum..Lorraine and he gained another son Simon into the bargain. We can remember their wedding day at Fareham Registry office in the late 1970’s. Dad worked hard all his life….. from humble beginnings as a painter and decorator, an apprentice to a butcher, a plumber and then a heating engineer. He and mum ran a very successful business, a great partnership with dad being the braun and mum having the business brains. Even in his retirement he couldn’t sit still and whenever mum went away for s short break she’d return to find he had started some major building or DIY project at home! Money was tight in our early years but he worked hard to ensure his family had amazing christmas’s and birthdays and occasional holidays…(we travelled to devon in the back of a transit and he was the only guy on the beach in cowboy boots, jeans and a checked shirt and spent a week in a canal boat which was returned in a far worse state than when he picked it up). He was able to enjoy more exotic locations later on…America, New Zealand, Norway and when he retired, him and mum spent 4 months of the year living it up in Europe in their motorhome. So..no matter how much we are going to miss him and feel cheated that he was snatched away far too soon, I think we should try to take comfort in remembering that he really did make the most of it, he found the love of his life with mum, enjoyed the company of so many good friends and family who loved him to bits. If he was listening to this he’d say o ahh and raise a pint glass…..so lets do the same back at him!!
